Day 4- Tainan

This post has to be quick because I'm at an aunt's house that I don't know well and feel rude sitting on the computer, but I just wanted to make a couple comments. My family and I went to Tainan to visit one of my mom's younger sisters who I haven't seen since I was about eleven. We took a hop-on-hop-off tourist bus and did lots of touristy things, but a couple things stood out to me.

Tainan is famous for having many miao or temples.  Temples all have plaques with calligraphy above the doorways or above the deity.  This specific temple was famous for their plaque because it has a single word on it, the number one, which looks like a dash. Here it is below!

It looks kind of, erm, interesting, doesn't it? The rest of the temple was beautiful, here is my sister in front of the alter. The four cone-shaped things with lots of dots have little lights on them, and you can pay to have your name under a light and they will burn it for a year.

The outside of the temple was beautiful too, I love the lanterns. 

Entrepreneurs capitalized on the popularity of the temples by selling fake money and offerings outside of the temples. There were about 10 stores and stands outside one of them, all carrying premade packages like these.

Also on a random tangent, we went to an old Dutch fort (Taiwan was occupied by the Dutch in the 1600s). They had some artifacts and exhibitions there. Please note their source of information below.
